Colin James is the Styling Director at Moda Operandi, known for his expertise in curating modern and timeless wardrobes. Before joining Moda Operandi, Colin served as the US Deputy Styling Editor at Net-a-Porter, where he honed his skills in editorial styling and luxury fashion.

Colin’s personal style is centered on foundational basics in neutral palettes, which he layers with emotional, statement pieces to create a balanced look. His wardrobe staples include high-waisted, loose trousers paired with slim tops, always belted to elevate the outfit. He emphasizes the importance of proportion in styling, whether working on a client or an editorial.

Based in New York City for over 11 years, Colin draws inspiration from the city’s diverse fashion landscape and the women in his life, from family to close friends. He also credits iconic film moments from his childhood, such as those from “Dirty Dancing” and “Pretty Woman,” as early influences in his fashion journey.

Colin is passionate about pushing clients out of their comfort zones while staying true to their personal style. He often looks back at 90s collections for inspiration and believes in the power of accessories and a well-chosen belt to transform an outfit.

  • You are able to cancel or reschedule your consultation up to 72 hours beforehand for a full refund. Please note, clients are allowed one cancellation and one reschedule between each completed consultation. Any cancellations and/or reschedules beyond that will politely be declined and charged in full. If you cancel your consultation within 72 hours of the time your consultation is due to begin, you will unfortunately be charged in full out of respect for your consultant’s time, and reschedules will politely be declined.     While you will not be able to contact or discuss anything directly with a stylist before booking. Once your consultation has been booked, you will have the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire to give your consultant further information such as style preferences and budget details. You will also be able to upload files (inspiration images) to review during your consultation.

  • 1. Take time to complete your intake questionnaire. This allows both you and your stylist to take full advantage of the allocated consultation time.
    2. Download Zoom on the device of your choice. The Zoom app will need to be installed on any device you plan to use for your consultation.
    3. Write out a list of questions you would like to review with your stylist.
    4. Consolidate any links you’d like to share with your stylist.
    5. Collect imagery that you can share during the video consultation including: inspiration images, mood boards, pieces you have your eye on (or already own) – anything you like!
